    Responding to Comments

OK, after much internal debate, I’ve decided on a method of responding to comments. In general, I’m going to attempt to respond to comments both via e-mail to the commenter and here within the post. Only the initial response to the comment will be posted, any further conversation that results from the comment via e-mail will stay between the commenter and myself (for my part). I know I don’t often write thought provoking or life questioning material, but I’d definitely like to respond when others have something to say. This feels like it offers more opportunities to create actual discourse.

While I don't have any sort of an official commenting policy, I think that my practice is much like your policy. I will reply to comments online most of the time. From time to time I'll also send a personal email. Any conversation that results from the personal email is typically kept private.

It does sound reasonable, except maybe for the part about creating actual discourse--I mean, come on, what are you trying to do, communicate with us? ;)

Definately the best way to go if you are looking for discourse. I find that I usually forget to go back and see if the author responded to my comments.
