    Freak Me Out

Talk about unintentionally freaking me out, stag updated her blogroll complete with descriptions. She describes me as, “engineer who is really a writer but wants to be a teacher”. After I read it yesterday, I found myself driving past the grocery and up into the foothills of the mountains not sure what bothered me but knowing that I couldn’t stay cooped up much longer. Forty minutes into the drive I figured it out. When did I become ‘really a writer’?

I drove another twenty minutes and realized, it’s a great compliment that warms my heart even as I freak out. The compliment felt odd because I thing of these posts as mini-conversations I have with the wall. I hear my own voice in my head and I strive to make it sound good, not necessarily read well. So, thanks for the compliment, please help me keep from getting a big head.

Don't take me too seriously. I mean, I meant what I said, but don't quit your day job. I don't think writing pays that well. It works better as a hobby. But come on, who other than a writer would go up into the mountains to think things through? Sorry I freaked you out.

No worries, I'll be keeping my day job. As for freaking me out, I thought it was amusing that a compliment sent me into such a state of mental panic.
