Paste Carefully

The afternoon lacked the obvious production of the mornings work, but I finished my filing. Two months is way too long to go between filings in my office. I have a box that papers get put in to file, Bossman brings me random crap from his desk to file, I drop transmittals and quick CYA notes in it and occasionally when someone else in the office does some engineering for me I drop their collected calculations in the bin. Usually, I sort and file the box every other week; but, with all the chaos and stupid working of the last two months I hadn’t had a spare half-hour to get to the box. So, I dedicated three hours of time today to cleaning out the file. Now, all I have to do tomorrow is find the bottom of the things to do pile.
Scheherazade posted an bit today on why she doesn’t podcast. While I don’t know if I agree with her ideas on voice when creating scenes and moods, I’ll be joining her in refraining from podcasting. I sound like a chipmunk. People actually appreciate when my throat gets scratchy because then they can hear me. The idea of dedicating my voice to the net should scare the world.

ETA: Let’s make tomorrow an all-request day and see if the juices will start to flow with help. So, if you have random (or not so random) questions for me, feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment.

Variations on a Monday

I succeeded in actually taking the whole weekend off, and only feeling bad about it four times. It would have been better if I had actually managed to put my room back in shape, but cleaning the hair off of the back of my neck will have to do for now.

I found myself actually being productive this morning, but now I really don’t want to jump back into the fray. I’m afraid Bossman will poke his head in and ruin my day. I know that’s a bridge to cross when it gets here, but sitting around waiting for it to happen makes me a bit antsy.

My blog-anniversary occurs in a little less than two weeks, and I don’t think I’ve felt as uninspired to write anything in the last year as I do right now. It’s not that I want to give up qv. I don’t know, maybe it’s the start of the spring blues.

ETA: My favorite brown boots don’t come in black. What crazy company makes such a beautiful pair of boots in black but doesn’t sell them in the states? Kill me now people.

Cluelessness

Cans someone please explain del.icio.us to me. And how to use it. I keep seeing people mention it, but I don’t understand it.

My week of work finished this evening, and I’m taking the weekend off. Despite my resolution, I keep having thoughts about going in to ‘just take care of the filing’ or make the list of things to do for Monday.

Tomorrow, I’m finally getting my hair chopped off, but I don’t know what to tell Randy when I sit in the chair. After a week with one day of gross hair, a day of model hair (if it had been longer) and the unfortunate binder clip incident has left me torn.

FQ TOPIC: Collectable.

Posted on 02.25.2005 22:42 by Registered Commenterkmsqrd | CommentsPost a Comment
Friday Q TOPIC: Collectable.

FQ1: Are you a collector? If so, what are some of the things you collect?
Yes, I collect books, CDs, DVDs, turtles, and sheets.

FQ2: If you could collect anything… no matter how rare or expensive, what would it be?
Ocean polished glass, it’s pretty.

FQ3: Looking around you, what is some ordinary, everyday object you possess that would make an interesting collectable 100 years from now?
My Marvin the Martian baseball hat.

FQ RECOMMENDED: Are there any public collections you enjoy (museums, galleries, etc.) that we should know about?
Nope, but if you get a chance take a drive counter clockwise around I-215 in SLC as teh sun sets and enjoy the view.

Feast Thirty-Seven

Feast Thirty-Seven

Appetizer: Name something that makes you scream.
Hitting my toe on a non-moving piece of furniture.

Soup: Who is a musician you enjoy listening to when you want to relax?
Yo-Yo Ma (RULES!)

Salad: What was the last book you purchased?
The Tipping Point, by Malcolm Gladwell - I’m in the process of reading this book, I don’t like it quite as much as Blink. Though, I’m not sure that my issues are all related to the book - it’s quite possible that yesterday’s traveling experiences have clouded my view.

Main Course: If you could live one day as any historical figure, who would it be, and what would you do?
Living as any historical figure? Are you nuts, you want me to give up my modern convinces to become someone from the past. Oh, ok, it’s just pretend. Well, if it’s just for a day I’ll be Cleopatra, during her glory days. And given that I know only her name, I guess I learn.

Dessert: Tell about a time when you were lost. Where did you end up? How long did it take you to get back to where you were going?
I’ve been lost for a very long time. Has anyone found me yet?

There and Back

The day began less than auspiciously. After finally winning the battle over bed coziness, I cleaned up, loaded the electronics and then dressed for success. Only, a small rip opened along the rear seam of my skirt. Luckily, nine slip stitches and seven minutes later I left home, mostly on time. Driving through the rain through town distracted me from the imbalance of the Yellow Steel Bridge. Parking wasn’t too evil, and I arrived at the gate with plenty of time to spare.

Like most of my day trips this one involved in-climatic weather. I almost lost the breakfast I never had the opportunity to eat as we flew over Alabama. The combination of suddenly draining sinuses, not being able to breath and consistent turbulence left me unable to read or even keep my eyes open. After a bit, the ride smoothed out and I landed in one piece.

John, my taxi driver, did a great job of getting me to my meeting, even managing to work his way around a road closing accident. I discovered two excellent reasons to take a taxi today. First, your vehicle qualifies for the HOV lane and second, you don’t have to drive around accidents in a city you don’t know. So, not only did I not get stuck in traffic, I didn’t have to fake my way out of it.

The meeting ended up being quite productive, and I don’t really have to change to many things. Yeah!

I do have to say; if I found any difficulties (beyond the morning flight) today it involved keeping my concentration around so many attractive men. The entered my peripheral vision off and on throughout the day, just enough to keep me on the look out for them.

[flying break]

Well, I arrived home safely, and now I’m going to go to bed. Sleep well, ya’ll.

Bobble

My mother just butt called me. No, she didn’t call and make random bodily noises into the phone. She completed one of those ‘dial my cell phone by accident’ calls that left me sitting in my office hollering “Mother” near the top of my indoor voice.

My work sweater has issues. Well, only one really. The sweater found the line between too heavy and insignificant, the sleeves roll up well and it fits when closed. The only problem is I wasn’t thinking when I bought it because it has a funnel neck. So, now I walk around the office, nice and toasty warm looking like a neck-less bobble-head doll.

Responding to Comments

OK, after much internal debate, I’ve decided on a method of responding to comments. In general, I’m going to attempt to respond to comments both via e-mail to the commenter and here within the post. Only the initial response to the comment will be posted, any further conversation that results from the comment via e-mail will stay between the commenter and myself (for my part). I know I don’t often write thought provoking or life questioning material, but I’d definitely like to respond when others have something to say. This feels like it offers more opportunities to create actual discourse.

Hitch Me

Posted on 02.22.2005 23:11 by Registered Commenterkmsqrd in | CommentsPost a Comment
I love romantic comedies that don’t require much thought. Hitch completes the task set before it with admirable aplomb. Will Smith pulls off that dork covered in smooth well, but often finds his scenes stolen by Kevin James. James’ hysterically awkward, frightened but lovable guy next door cracked me up, way too many times. The idea that some the elusive ‘good ones’ (you know, the ones who aren’t married or gay) lack the confidence to even make the approach somehow manages to hearten and dishearten me at the same time. Oh, well, I’ll just return to my dreams now.

Hitch
  • Matinee or Evening Movie: Evening
  • Add to Collection: Yes
  • Grade: A-
ETA: I do wonder sometimes, however, just how many times I can watch Will Smith run down the street in a movie and still manage to find it entertaining.

EATA: After being unable to sleep this morning, I have to admit I had a problem with Hitch last night. The guys Hitch helped out were average guys seeking to be hooked up with age appropriate new-school beauties. Do the rest of us old-school or classic beauties not merit even the idea of a guy wanting to try something as drastic as hiring a coach? If I already frighten some men because of my brain (don’t get me started) what hope is there for those of us who don’t fit the size six mold?

Definitions:
  • New School Beauty: Size 6 with athletic/few curves.
  • Old School Beauty: More like Marilyn Monroe.
  • Classic Beauty: Rubenesque.

EOBD

Well, ‘tis the end of business Tuesday, and I cannot really tell you what I did today. It was a frustrating day at work, I flitted from project to project accomplishing nothing.

I wish the person who stopped by looking for impromptu ideas had actually asked for some ideas, maybe coming up with something would help me feel productive.

ETA: I know rescheduling my hair appointment yesterday was a good idea because I feel so much better today. However, my hair has become way too long for me when I grab it from each side, twist it up and back, and secure it with a binder clip. I’d completely forgotten that I’d pulled my hair back and went to talk with Bossman. Talk about making a great professional impression.

My Eyeballs Feel Better

Posted on 02.22.2005 10:08 by Registered Commenterkmsqrd in | CommentsPost a Comment
Happy news for today! I feel much better and no longer look like death warmed over, Alm finally succeeded in replacing the hot-water heater, and my appetite returned. I spent yesterday evening in bed with warm rice-filled socks on my head. I fell asleep with heat on my sinuses and by this morning even my eyeballs feel better.

At the end of last month I complained about the ‘rolling rider’ speed bumps that had been added to my drive to and from work. Last week the great city of Atlanta also installed another STOP sign. Dude, I hate stopping, finding first is such a pain the butt when I don’t quite have the seat set correctly.
